Fallen electricity cables spark fire and cut supply
An Invergordon fire crew was called to an incident yesterday after fallen electricity cables had caused a fire in a garden near the Heathfield area.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 3.57pm in relation to a power cable incident where an electricity cable had caused a fire in the Heathfield Road area of Invergordon.
“Our crew from Invergordon made the area safe and awaited the attendance of SSEN (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks) to isolate the power supply.”
Around 120 properties are thought to have been affected when the power supply was cut as a precaution.
A spokeswoman from SSEN said: “We’d like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused, and thank them for their patience, reassuring them we are doing everything we can to restore the remaining power supplies as quickly and as safely as possible.”
A stop message was received by the Invergordon fire crew at 4.44pm and the appliance left the scene shortly after 5.30pm.
Engineers from SSEN were last night investigating the cause of the fault, and said power
“An 11,000kV powerlinecame down, causing the line to arc”
was likely to be restored by late last night to 22 properties which were still cut off.
Invergordon Fire Station tweeted: “S30P6 mobilised to a power cable causing a fire in a garden, on investigation crews discovered an 11,000kV power line had come down, causing the line to arc. Crew set up a cordon and awaited SSEN to isolate the power.”
