Probe into alleged firework incidents
An investigation is under way after fireworks were aimed towards home supporters at Dens Park on Wednesday night.
Fans said they feared for their safety during the SPFL premier league match between Dundee and Celtic after away supporters launched pyrotechnics towards home supporters in the South Enclosure.
Dundee lost 5-0 and supporters were left further aggrieved, with some accusing police and stewards of inaction and allowing the large travelling support to get away with holding banned items in the Kilmac Stadium.
It is an offence for anyone to enter a football ground with fireworks, flares or pyrotechnics of any type, yet no arrests
“The referee should have stopped the game”
were made during the game. Police are, however, investigating what took place.
Video evidence of fireworks landing in the South Enclosure has appeared online, with police clearly visible.
One Dundee fan, who asked not to be named, said: “Policing at Dens was an absolute shambles on Wednesday night. It was embarrassing. The Celtic fans were letting off pyrotechnics at will.
“The referee should have stopped the game as the devices were being thrown towards Dundee fans from the Bob Shankly stand.
“It was obvious where the trouble was coming from and the police and stewards did not intervene at all.”
A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of a number of incidents at the match at Dens Park.
“While we can confirm no arrests were made, officers from the Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland (FoCUS) are investigating.”
