Broch’s three-point plan

Big month at Bellslea as West aims to challenge on three fronts

- BY PAUL THIRD

Fraserburgh captain Willie West believes November will be a pivotal month in his club’s season. The Broch are challenging on three fronts this month as they prepare for a trip to Inverurie Locos in the Highland League tomorrow followed by a home game against the same opposition in the Aberdeenshire Shield on Wednesday.

Fraserburgh are also in Highland League Cup action against Deveronvale and Scottish Cup duty against Auchlinleck Talbot in the next four weeks.

Skipper West knows consistency will be key for his men in their pursuit of silverware this term.

He said: “We’ve got a big month coming up in the league and the cups.

“Locos back to back will not be easy and no player enjoys those games.

“We’ll play each other five times this season and I’d imagine we are sick of the sight of each other already.

“Every game is massive just now but because of Cove, who are so good, you can’t afford to drop any points in the league. That’s why Saturday was so frustrating.

“We had a tough day at Huntly on Saturday when we dropped two points and you look at Cove and they just don’t seem to drop points anywhere.”

Fraserburgh got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win against Turriff United at Bellslea Park on Wednesday night.

Bt West believes his side is capable of playing better and knows there will have to be an improvement against Neil Cooper’s Locos outfit.

He said: “We found a bit of composure in front of goal in the second half but I think we can play a lot better than we did against Turriff.

“It’s a great thing to be able to win games when not playing well and Turriff played well when you consider they had a couple of one-on-ones which they didn’t take advantage of.

“It was a good result for us and it’s nice to be back up to second ahead of our trip to Inverurie.

“They’ll be looking for some revenge after what happened the last time we went to Harlaw Park in the Scottish Cup and beat them.”
