City pho­to­graph shows re­al­ity

A poignant pho­to­graph of sol­diers march­ing to war through In­ver­ness has touched a chord with or­gan­is­ers of the Ar­mistice centenary com­mem­o­ra­tions in the High­lands.

The pic­ture, taken on Academy Street, brings home the re­al­ity of the First World War, and is be­ing used to pro­mote the High­land 100 – Re­turn to Light pa­rade and ser­vice be­ing held this week­end.

At 3pm to­day a me­mo­rial can­dle will be taken in pro­ces­sion from St An­drews Cathe­dral to the Old High Church, In­ver­ness. To­mor­row at 6am, pipers will take part in the na­tion’s tribute and mass play­ing of the retreat march, “When the Bat­tle’s O’er” at In­ver­ness Cas­tle. There will also be a Remembrance pa­rade and ser­vice held at Cavell Gar­dens War Me­mo­rial in In­ver­ness at 10.45am.
