City photograph shows reality

-

A poignant photograph of soldiers marching to war through Inverness has touched a chord with organisers of the Armistice centenary commemorations in the Highlands.

The picture, taken on Academy Street, brings home the reality of the First World War, and is being used to promote the Highland 100 – Return to Light parade and service being held this weekend.

At 3pm today a memorial candle will be taken in procession from St Andrews Cathedral to the Old High Church, Inverness. Tomorrow at 6am, pipers will take part in the nation’s tribute and mass playing of the retreat march, “When the Battle’s O’er” at Inverness Castle. There will also be a Remembrance parade and service held at Cavell Gardens War Memorial in Inverness at 10.45am.
