McAllister vision of promotion extends beyond League 1
Peterhead striker Rory McAllister reckons the Blue Toon are capable of mixing it with the promotion challengers in the league above. Scotland’s third tier and push for promotion to the Championship.
Jim McInally’s men are heavy favourites to go up this season after running Montrose close last year and suffering play-off heartache over two legs against Stenhousemuir.
They have lost just once this season, against fellow promotion-challengers Edinburgh City, and are desperate to stay top of the pile this afternoon.
McAllister said: “We fancy our chances, even against teams in the league above. That’s where we want to be, pushing for promoton at the top end fo that league.
“We have got a good squad and we want to get away from people come Christmas, hopefully being a few points clear. We were unlucky last year and Montrose were unbelievable. “Hopefully we can do the same this year and have the league wrapped up as soon as possible.”
A trip to Hampden Park to face Queen’s Park lies in store for the Blue Toon today with the Spiders taking a point off them on the opening day of the season.
Playing at the national stadium in League 2 does not carry the same wow-factor for McAllister however, given his cup-final experience in 2016.
He added: “When we played Rangers in the final it was great but it’s not the same. When Queen’s play there, there’s only about 50 fans and it’s a weird atmosphere.
“They are a sticky enough team with a settled squad but we fancy our chances of getting the three points.”
“We fancy our second tier chances”
