Barbour haunts Fort again

Playing Claggan Park side seems to bring out the best in Broch striker

Fraserburgh striker Scott Barbour just loves playing against Fort William. The former Formartine forward notched his second five-goal haul against the Lochaber side in last Saturday’s 13-0 trouncing.

Barbour, back for his second spell at Bellslea, said: “I actually scored five goals against Fort William last season when I was playing for Formartine United.

“Last Saturday we were 8-0 up against the Fort at half-time, but for me, at this stage of the season, scoring goals is a really good habit to have, with cup ties against firstly Deveronvale in the Highland League Cup this Saturday, followed by a home Scottish Cup tie against Auchinleck Talbot, who knocked Cove Rangers out in the last round

“After all that we then face Cove Rangers, again at Bellslea, in an important top-of-the-table clash. It’s good to have all these games coming along.”

Reflecting on his new strike partnership with Sean Butcher, Barbour added: “I think young Sean may have come off the bench a couple of times earlier this season but this is the first time we’ve started a game together as first choice strikers.

“I think we did really well against Fort William last weekend when we scored nine times between us. I scored five and Sean managed to score four more, and we also had a hand in setting up each other to score.

“I think it’s going to be a really good partnership, Sean gets stuck in and he provided a good aerial threat as well.

“I have to admit that although we did a thoroughly professional job against the Fort on Saturday, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for their players.

“At the end of the season the title could be decided on goal difference, so it was important that we were as clinical as we were.

“Our Scottish Cup tie at home to Auchinleck Talbot later this month is a huge game. We have had them watched a couple of times; in fact our assistantmanager, James Duthie, was down at Kilwinning last Saturday to see Auchinleck draw 0-0 with their local rivals.”
