And gas on the horizon Nuclear industry a focus for firm
As an organisation, Wood has its fingers in many pies.
Yet Bob MacDonald believes the one of the most exciting sectors for the firm will be nuclear energy and said he was ready to position Wood for the future.
The energy services firm recently celebrated a £52 million contract win for maintenance at the Sellafield nuclear facility in Cumbria.
Mr MacDonald said the 10-year deal “could not have been secured” without the 2017 acquisition of engineering firm Amec Foster Wheeler.
He said: “Wood Group, as it was at the time, had the automation and control expertise and Amec Foster Wheeler had the nuclear experience.
“I think Wood Group bidding into the Sellafield contract would’ve been a short conversation, but putting it together as Wood with our combined unique skill set, what I call our deep domain knowledge, made it a great proposition.
“We’ve brought both together to form a new company which is involved in more sectors than ever before.”
Mr MacDonald described the Amec deal as “critical” to the future growth and success of Wood, adding: “Since the initial public offer (IPO) we have completed around 60 acquisitions.”
Wood clearly feels that growth with the acquisition of Amec and the firm’s exponential expansion into other energy markets.
Mr MacDonald has been tasked with the responsibility of increasing that work, a responsibility he’s excited about.
He said: “Part of my job is to try and position Wood for the future.”
