Blue Toon looking at back-up keeper for Fleming

The goalkeeper who became famous after being injured by a runaway cow, Sam Henderson, is interestin­g Peterhead and trained with Jim McInally’s side last night.

The 19-year-old was a youth team player with Queen of the South last season and was called up to their first team squad after Alan Martin was ruled out.

He made headlines when he almost missed his chance after suffering a shoulder injury in a collision with a cow at his dad’s farm.

Henderson recovered only to be released by the Dumfries club in the summer.

after Queen of the South loanee Ryan Gibson returned to the Championsh­ip club.

The Blue Toon manager said: “Greg Fleming is probably the best goalkeeper in League 2 and we need an understudy to him. Sam has been recommende­d and he fits the bill in terms of what we are after so he will train with us and we will take things from there.”

Elsewhere in League 2, Blair Henderson is hoping his scoring streak can take Edinburgh City to title glory and earn him a new deal.

The 24-year-old has smashed 26 goals in all competitio­ns blasting eight last month to scoop the player of the month.

Henderson said: “This is the best run of my career and it’s the happiest I have been in a long time. I just have to keep my head down and keep playing well. I’ve only got a one-year deal but I would love to stay here longer.”
