Price issues warning to players – and apology to fans

-

Gavin Price issued a heartfelt apology to Elgin City’s supporters and accepted full blame for the dismal performance against Cowdenbeath.

But the Borough Briggs boss insists his squad must give far more of themselves to the cause amid the current slump in form.

Price, who took the reins from Jim Weir in November 2017, was honest and damning in his post-match assessment.

He warned the City players they were on borrowed time in their bid to reach the promotion play-offs.

The City boss said: “On behalf of us and the players, I can only apologise for one of the worst home performances in my time at the club.

“I am bitterly disappointed. It’s clear that we need to freshen things up and get players in.

“We have been trying to do that, but it hasn’t materialised.

“Hopefully, we will get players in because the players are not giving me enough at the moment.”

Price and his players will regroup and prepare for a massive Scottish Cup tie away to Hibs this weekend, but do so under a cloud after three straight defeats.

The City manager said: “We have a welcome break with the Hibs game, but we need to do a bit of soulsearching in the next couple of weeks and, hopefully, start to get things right.

“The distraction of the Hibs game is maybe a break for us. It’s a big game in terms of prestige for the club.”
