Fraserburgh’s slim title hopes kept alive with convincing win

Fraserburgh kept their slim title hopes alive with a 4-1 win over Deveronvale at Bellslea.

Broch assistant manager James Duthie said: “We were very good in that first half when we went 3-0 up and it could have been a few more.

“We were a bit disappointed in the second half by our finishing but Grant Pennet in the Vale goal had an excellent game.

“After the break we took our foot off the gas and got careless.

“We moved the ball about far too slowly but when Vale were reduced to 10-men, it actually killed the game for us a wee bit.

“I felt we were quite poor after that.

“However, it’s still three good points from a derby match.

“We knew that if we didn’t turn up we would come unstuck but we created quite a number of chances in both halves, which is pleasing.”

Fraserburgh opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Scott Barbour netted form close-range.

He made it 2-0 two minutes later before Ryan Sargent added another in the 27 th minute.

After the break Vale were reduced to 10 men when Michael Dunn picked up his second yellow card.

Five minutes from time Ross Aitken grabbed a consolation goal for Vale shortly before Bryan Hay made it 4-1 with a header.

Steve Dolan was disappointed with his side’s first half showing. He said: “I thought that the game was finished in 20 minutes. Once you go 3-0 down to the Broch you’re always going to struggle.

“We started the game poorly and we couldn’t get to grips with them. I think we played the game too high up the park. We needed to sit deep and frustrate them for longer, like we did when we played them earlier in the season.”
