Launch of welfare service for north veterans

Poppyscotland is to launch a new service to help veterans negotiate the welfare system.

The charity has announced a new Welfare Support Service for the armed forces community aimed at providing “personcentred” support for people with multiple or complex needs.

From early summer, a six-strong team will work to ensure veterans receive the relevant support suited to their needs.

In a bid to maintain its local focus, the charity is now seeking to recruit people from the north and north-east.

support to our armed forces community across Scotland. We reach out to those who have served, those still serving, and their families at times of crisis and need by offering vital, practical advice, assistance and funding. This is a hugely exciting period for Poppyscotland’s Welfare Services team.

“The implementation of the Welfare Support Service will offer us a unique opportunity to deliver support in the communities across Scotland; providing a holistic, person-centred support to individuals who are particularly vulnerable and have complex needs.”

Four welfare support officers and two independent living advisers will work alongside the new recruits offering support to designated geographical areas across the region.

Advisers will act as a point of contact for members of the armed forces community.
