Police name crash death driver as tributes pour in

- Mohamed Chache

Tributes continued to pour in for a bus driver who died in a crash on the Black Isle as he was last night officially named by police as 50-year-old Mohamed Chache from Inverness.

Police also issued a photograph of Mr Chache.

A Crowdfunding campaign launched by a colleague of the driver at Stagecoach – to assist his family with funeral costs – had last night passed the halfway mark of a £2,000 target.

The tragedy happened at around 5.40pm on Friday at Littlemill Bridge on the B9161, near Munlochy, as the 37-seat bus had been travelling towards Cromarty.

There were nine passengers on the bus at the time of the collision, three of whom remain in hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be lifethreatening.

The remaining passengers suffered minor injuries and have been released from hospital.

Police sergeant Alan Henderson said: “Several witnesses have come forward already but I would ask anyone who believes they may have information but has not yet spoken to us to come forward.”

Mr Chache’s wife Sandra told The Press and Journal: “I very much appreciate the many tributes for Mo and the numerous messages of support.”

Stagecoach described Mr Chache, who was originally from Zanzibar, as a loyal and popular member of staff.

Tributes also continued on social media.

Jacquie Urquhart said: “RIP Mo. Unbelievable you have gone so soon. Always so happy and cheerful.”

And Janice Robertson said: “One of the loveliest, cheeriest, most helpful drivers I’ve seen.”
