Extreme sports venue to expand again
Transition Extreme in Aberdeen is on the hunt for a new chairperson to lead expansion of its activities across the north-east.
A 10-year development plan for the extreme sports venue will be officially unveiled in the coming months. It aims to make the venue as inclusive as possible for all ages and abilities, and also to build a major adventure tourism attraction.
The plan includes fun climbing for younger children, upgraded climbing walls, a refurbished cafe and integrated youth hub to support the venue’s social agenda. It also includes attracting new investment to develop the complex and the beachfront, while growing its youth outreach activity in the region.
Director and acting chairman David Briggs is stepping down from the Transition board after many years of service.
It comes after a major shake-up of the boardroom team last year, when five new directors were appointed to help grow the social enterprise with skills including marketing, social policy, business development and digital innovation. Chief executive Grahame Paterson said: “We’ve helped thousands of young people make a positive transition into adulthood over the years and our vision is to make sure we are in a position to offer support to everyone who may need it.
“We are also a driving force in Aberdeen’s beachfront renaissance and are committed to working with key stakeholders, including Opportunity North East and VisitAberdeenshire, to build a strategy that will see the region become a leading adventure tourism destination.”
