Law reserves right to tee it up with the stars

-

Aberdeen’s David Law is hoping to make the most of a late spot in the field for this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

The 27-year-old is one of eight Scots in the field for the £5.4 million Rolex Series event.

Law, who won the Scottish Hydro at Spey Valley on the Challenge Tour last year, is playing his first full season on the European Tour. He finished tied 26th at the Alfred Dunhill championship in South Africa on his last appearance before Christmas and knows another good week in Abu Dhabi could net some valuable ranking points in the quest to keep his European Tour card.

Law was unsure if he would be in the field for this week’s event, having initially been on the reserve list for the event.

He said: “When I booked flights I was fourth reserve and when I boarded the plane I was down to first reserve.

“I thought I would get a week of practice in warmer weather if I didn’t get in.

“But I was hoping to get a spot in the field.

“Thankfully when I landed in Dubai I found out I was in the field, which was brilliant. “The course is great.

“I’ve played 27 holes and it’s a proper test.

“The fairways are very tight and the rough is really thick. There is a fantastic feel about the event and one that I’m excited to get going in.”

Law added: “It’s a strong field and brilliant to be part of but I’m very focused on myself and doing everything I can to make it a positive week.”

Stephen Gallacher, David Drysdale, Scott Jamieson, Richie Ramsay, Grant Forrest, Liam Johnston and Oban’s Robert MacIntyre are the other Scots playing.
