Greens red-hot pick but skipper still wary

- BY ANDY SKINNER

Caithness host National 3 bottom dogs Haddington tomorrow but Millbank captain Marc Anderson won’t be treating the East Lothian team lightly.

Eighth-placed Caithness play their first home fixture of 2019 and are firm favourites to beat a team that has won just one match this season.

With seven games remaining, stand off Anderson says the Greens must be fully focused in order to climb the table.

Anderson said: “We definitely need to target five points, especially at home.

“When we played Haddington away they had a few dangerous players, particularly their full back and a couple of boys up front.

“We are not underestimating them at all. We will treat it like any other game but we are quite strong with a couple of boys back from offshore, although we have a couple of boys unavailable.

“We have got to beat the teams around us at the moment to stay where we are.

“All the games, apart from Gordonians and West of Scotland, are against teams around or below us in the table.”

Caithness have had a depleted schedule in recent weeks and Anderson is keen to use this weekend’s game as an opportunity to regain sharpness.

He said: “With us only having played three games since the start of December, it can sometimes be a struggle to stay motivated at training when there is no match to look forward to.

“The atmosphere in the camp has still been quite good though. This weekend is a good opportunity to get a bit of confidence back.

“In the last game down at Carrick on January 19 we did not play well, losing 39-12, so we are hoping a good performance against Haddington can help us get back into the swing of things.

“We’ve had a long time to think about that game and hopefully the players will provide a response this weekend.”
