Aplin bullish as Aberdeen side goes into cup tie on a roll

-

Aberdeen Grammar centre Tom Aplin is confident his side will score another victory tomorrow when they travel to face Falkirk in the National League Cup quarter-finals.

National 1 Grammar are heading to Cala Park on the back of a string of impressive wins over the past few months.

Aplin, who is now in his seventh year with Grammar, believes the squad’s current form is better than ever and could take them all the way to the final.

He said: “Going unbeaten for so long is something unusual to us because our performances have tended to go up and down over the years. It’s nice having a change and getting result after result because it’s really boosted the club.

“We’ve been building towards this for years, and I think as a team we’re now settled and it’s all starting to click.”

The Rubislaw men pulled off an impressive 42-19 win over GHA in January.

And now, with only two games standing between them and the the chance to play in the final, there is all to play

“I think we can go the whole way”

for. Aplin added: “We’ve had a couple of weeks off because of the Six Nations and it’s been a good time to rest.

“There’s been a couple of training sessions this week and we were surprised at how sharp we were after the time off.

“It’s reassuring because we’ll need to be on top form on Saturday if we are going to reachthat top-four spot, but it’s looking attainable.

“We know Falkirk well.

They went down a division after last season but are still a quality team and we’ll have to be wary of their threat.

“They have nothing to lose but it would mean a lot for us to get to the final. We’ve beaten all the teams in the running in the past so I think we can go the whole way.”
