Masson: Going up is magic for all at this club

-

Jamie Masson dedicated Cove Rangers’ promotion to comanager John Sheran after their 3-0 triumph over Berwick Rangers.

Sheran had watched on in both legs of the pyramid play-off against Berwick following a heart attack last month, but was seen on the touchline late in the game at Shielfield Park.

Former Aberdeen midfielder Masson bagged the first goal and played a starring role in Cove securing their SPFL status, on the back of an emphatic 7-0 aggregate triumph over the League 2 side.

Masson said: “It was an extra motivation – it spurred us on. It was brilliant to see him there. That’s it done now and hopefully he’s proud. For all the staff and everyone at the club, it’s magic.

“We’ve proved that we’re a league above, it’s good going”

“A lot of players came here to get to the SPFL and we’ve done it. I’ll rest in the summer and get fit, because it’ll be a fitter league but I feel we can compete in that league.

“We’ve proved that we’re a league above and won 7-0 on aggregate, which is good going.”

For Cove full-back Harry Milne it was a case of third-time lucky, having experienced playoff disappointment with the side twice in the past.

Milne said: “You can see how much it means to everyone. We handled it really professionally over both legs – we came down to win on Saturday and did that well.

“We’ve said before, it was a different attitude from the boys than in the past. This is my third time in it, so it’s third time lucky.

“We’ve got boys that have played at a higher level but it’ll be my first time up there. We’ll see how we get on in the summer and prepare well.”
