Championship joy for club

- BY DAVE EDWARDS

Stonehaven Bowling Club will have no fewer than 13 members competing in next week’s prestigious Scottish National Championships at Northfield in Ayr.

The 13 bowlers are Lauren Roddie (junior singles); Lauren Roddie and Catherine McIntosh (pairs); Amy Scott, Frances Paterson and Heather Garvie (triples); Alice Duncan, Elizabeth Hunt, Frances Paterson, Catherine McIntosh (senior fours); Joe Aitken, Bobby Harrison, Jim Roddie, Steve Gellatly (senior fours); Jim Roddie, Graham Penny, George Buchan (triples).

Committee member Sandra McWilliam said: “We have seven women and six men going down this year which is more than we’ve ever sent to the national championships.

“As it’s such a special occasion the club has presented all 13 players with special shirts.

“Last year we had a father and daughter win the mixed pairs competition, Jim and Lauren Roddie, both of whom are competing again this time around, not partnering each other but in various competitions.

“Like Jim and Lauren, Catherine McIntosh, who has won heaps of trophies, also has a real chance of bringing home some silverware.

“But the real icing on the cake is we have just been notified Kim Watt and Catherine McIntosh from Stonehaven Indoor Bowling Club, have been nominated for ladies’ player of the year, along with Heather Garvie and Lauren Roddie, who have been nominated for Junior Ladies’ player of the year.

“They will all attend a ceremony at Glasgow Indoor Stadium at the end of September.”
