Stewart aims to pull fast one in recovery

-

Scottish 400m champion Kelsey Stewart continues her comeback from injury by competing over 200m in Sunday’s open graded meeting at Aberdeen Sports Village.

The Aberdeen AAC sprinter missed the first three months of the season because of an ankle injury but eased herself back into competitive mode last weekend by running a leg of the 4x400m relay in the Scottish Women’s League meeting at Grangemouth.

Stewart is determined to hold on to the national senior women’s 400m title she has won for the past two years but Sunday’s 200m will be her only individual race prior to next month’s Scottish championships.

She said: “I’ve been working hard in training and all that’s really missing is the sharpness but hopefully I’ll be fine.”

Her opponents are likely to include clubmate Rebecca Matheson and Robert Gordon University student Eilidh de Klerk (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers).

Scotland international Michael Ferguson (Aberdeen AAC) is favourite to win the 800m and he’ll also tackle the 200m with clubmates Robbie Shaw, James Mcintosh and Struan Linton.

Marathon men Tom Roche (JS Kintore) and Chris Richardson (Metro Aberdeen) go head-tohead in the 5,000m in which Kirsty Mitchell (Metro Aberdeen) and teenager Janani Mohan (Aberdeen AAC) will compete for top spot in the women’s division.

North under-17 throws champion Shannon Pasotti (Orkney), who competed in the International Island Games in Gibraltar, competes in the shot and discus while Scottish junior international Jane Davidson (Aberdeen AAC) tackles the long jump, and 100m.
