The wait is over for the many devoted fans of Highland League football as the first matches of a highly-anticipated season kick off this weekend.

It promises to be one of the most keenlyfought title races for years as all clubs eye the coveted crown – and some the prospect of promotion.

That was the prize finally seized by Cove Rangers at the end of the last campaign – and the departure of the serial champions provides a chance for others to shine.

And the injection of some youthful Caley Jags talent means Fort William can by no means any longer be seen as easy pickings.
