Scott sees County links in SPFL new boys

-

Experienced Cove Rangers attacking midfielder Martin Scott has likened the newly promoted League 2 outfit to one of his former clubs Ross County.

Scott played 127 games for the Staggies between 2006-2011 and scored the Dingwall side’s second goal in their shock 2-1 Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Celtic in 2010.

He joined Cove for their promotion to the SPFL at the end of last season, after leaving Cowdenbeath, and has featured in their last two Betfred Cup fixtures.

Scott said: “This group of players reminds me very much of my five years in Dingwall with Ross County.

“I left County in the January window but they eventually gained promotion to the Premier League and went on to establish themselves as a Premier League club.

“I can see the same ambition with this group of players, in the chairman and manager; everyone wants to do well for this club.

“Our new manager Paul Hartley has been there and done it. He won 25 caps for Scotland and he has bags of knowledge about the game which he can pass on to any member of this Cove team to help us progress.

“Obviously to get a manager of Paul Hartley’s calibre coming in is a good thing for Cove.

“As some people may be aware, Paul came in and took some training sessions during the playoffs and the guys were buzzing with his training, so to get that on a full-time basis, with a full-time manager, shows you the direction this club want to go in.

“It shows that Cove don’t want to stand still and that’s a good thing. For myself and the boys to be part of it is massive.”
