Initiative launched to tackle addiction stigma
A drive is being mounted to counter the stigma felt by people in the far north affected by drink and drug problems.
Tagged Caithness Recovery Week, the initiative encourages both individuals and their families and friends to seek professional help to address the blight caused by addiction.
The week-long campaign is being run by Caithness Drugs and Alcohol Forum.
It is timed to start on National Overdose Awareness Day on August 31.

the country, with people affected by alcohol and drug abuse.
“The week is all about raising awareness of the provision which is available in Caithness.
“It will also try and reduce the stigma attached to the issue, which is particularly acute in rural, outlying areas.”
The programme will begin with a stand at the Tesco store in Wick.
It will include opportunities for NHS and staff from other public and third sector organisation to receive training.
It also flags up the three weekly drop-in sessions run in Thurso and Wick by the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service and the AA and Narcotics Anonymous meets.
“It’s all about getting the word out there about what is available here,” said Mrs Harper.
“We’re trying to promote this not only to those directly affected by alcohol or drugs abuse but their family and friends.”
