Female runner flown to hospital
A 35-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack during a marathon in the Outer Hebrides on Saturday.
The runner was said to be in a stable condition in the Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway, after suffering what is believed to be a cardiac arrest during the weekend’s Marathon Hebrides in Harris.
Emergency services were called after the woman collapsed at the 15.5-mile mark of the race, run in tough conditions with heavy rain and strong winds over challenging terrain.
Hebrides Mountain Rescue Team and first responders from around Lewis and Harris were helping to marshal the race and were on hand to respond immediately.
Stornoway Coastguard search and rescue helicopter airlifted her to hospital.
