Man gets 8 months in jail for attacking woman

-

An Elgin man was jailed for eight months at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday after he was found guilty of assaulting a woman by repeatedly punching and kicking her on the head and body.

Sentence was backdated to July 10 when he was taken into custody for the attack at an address in Kingussie on July 8.

Questioned by depute fiscal Rowena Carlton, Campbell’s victim told Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood that the pair had an argument over a mountain bike.

She said: “He was angry. He was punching and kicking me on the head and body, he bit my finger which was bleeding, he slapped me and pulled my hair.”

The court heard that police were called and found Campbell hours later hiding in a bush with cuts to his hands, swollen red knuckles and grazes to his legs.

Campbell, of Jameson Drive, Elgin, denied assaulting the woman and claimed someone else must have done it as he had left the address in distress.

He said his injuries were sustained by nettles and branches in the bushes.
