Neil Gauld hopes Inverurie Loco Works’ improved cup form continues as they aim for a double over Formartine United.

The Railwaymen’s record in cups has been poor in recent seasons, but this term that’s changed with the club reaching the third round of the Scottish Cup and semi-final of the Aberdeenshire Shield.

Tomorrow Locos tackle local rivals Formartine at North Lodge Park in the Highland League Cup first round 10 days after winning 2-1 at Pitmedden in the league.

Striker Gauld, who played for United between 2015 and 2017, said: “It’s a local derby and after last week’s defeat they’ll be wanting to put that result right.

“We’re on a high and have players playing well so there’s no reason why we can’t win again.

“I had decent times there and enjoy going back to Formartine.

“I get on well with all their lads and the pitch is always in great

condition and we look forward to playing there.

“It’s another cup competition that we’d like to progress in.

“Our record in the cups in the last couple of years has been poor, but we’re improving that this season and want to keep it going.”

In the other cup ties across the region, Strathspey Thistle welcome Forres Mechanics to Seafield Park while Huntly

face the long trip to Harmsworth Park to face Wick Academy, who have signed Colin MacRae on loan from Brora Rangers.
