The Press and Journal (Inverness, Highlands, and Islands)
Deadly Secrecy
★★★★★
Ask the awkward questions and you won’t get answers. Investigative journalist Morton is blocked every which way by devious politicians and sinister spooks. No answers to the unexplained murder of an antinuclear activist, none on nuclear reprocessing in Scotland, and plausible excuses about public interest secrecy. Readers will like it when Morton goes on the run, like the heroes of Buchan and Household, across to Oban and beyond, and love the yeasty end to the villain. Scott’s point is well made: on much that matters, we’re too often told that we’re not told for our own good.
