Adventurer inspires Highland youngsters
UK Scouting ambassador James Ketchell visited Inverness yesterday to talk about his incredible life as a world adventurer.
Ketchell said he had been a shy, unconfident teenager, but everything changed after he suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle accident.
He has gone on to become the only person to have completed the Ultimate Triathlon, rowing across the Atlantic from La Gomera to Antigua in 110 days, climbing Mount Everest and cycling 18,000 miles around the world.
H e s e t a n o t h e r record earlier this year, circumnavigating the world in an open cockpit gyrocopter, covering 23,000 miles in just 175 days.
For his next project he plans to sail round the world.
He said: “I truly believe that every young person has the ability to be whoever they want to be and that the capability to succeed lies within everyone.”
