Elec­tion fears brushed aside

Be­larus’s au­thor­i­tar­ian pres­i­dent has dis­missed con­cerns that the coun­try’s par­lia­ment elec­tion, from which many op­po­si­tion fig­ures are ex­cluded, would not be free and fair.

Pres­i­dent Alexan­der Lukashenko said: “I’m not in the habit of wor­ry­ing about this mat­ter,” and his ad­min­is­tra­tion “isn’t play­ing at...democ­racy”.
