Labelling no guarantee on farmed salmon

-

SIR, – I read Kathleen Robertson’s column titled “‘Less and Better’ approach to festive food” (Press and Journal, November 15).

The paragraphs which prompted me to put pen to paper were those containing her brief thoughts on Scottish salmon: “It is covered by some schemes, so any concerns you might have... can be eased when you choose local fish and check the assurance label.”

Hasn’t the public’s assurance regarding the farming of salmon been totally blown out of the water recently? Pardon the pun!

No label on any Scottish salmon product would convince me to purchase, as things stand at this time.

Granted, it is probably “high in omega 3” but “responsibly sourced”, “RSPCA approved” and so on still wouldn’t persuade me that the war against the parasitic sea louse has been won.
