Concern over Caley Thistle

-

My concern for Caley Thistle is growing after yet another uninspiring display.

Saturday’s Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup quarter-final against Clyde was, again, so poor from Inverness.

For the second weekend in a row they failed to score against a part-time team and Caley Jags fans have every justification in being concerned by the team’s loss of form and, more importantly, confidence.

The worrying aspect, for me, watching the game, was the fact that if a neutral had been in attendance they would have been unable to tell which team was full-time and which one part-time.

Clyde did brilliantly while Inverness seemed to run out of ideas as the game wore on. The Bully Wee can consider themselves very unfortunate to have been knocked out following the penalty shoot-out.

I cover most of the games in the Highlands for Opta so I’ve become privvy to the statistical analysis in these games and the influence of Tom Walsh on the team is clear.

So much of Caley Thistle’s attacking play comes through Tom and when he doesn’t play he is a huge loss to the team.

He is involved in so many of their goals when on the pitch and manager John Robertson needs to see his player back on form and terrorising opposition defences again.
