Marshall urges Dark Blues to lay down a marker
David Marshall wants Scotland to put down a play-off marker in their final Euro 2020 qualifier against Kazakhstan.
The Scots failed to recover from the shock 3-0 defeat in Nur-Sultan in their Group I opener in March and cannot make the finals by the traditional method but they still have the chance to qualify through the Nations League play-offs.
Wins over San Marino and Cyprus in the last two games have put Steve Clarke’s side into third place in their section topped by Belgium and Russia and in a better mood ahead of their final fixture and Marshall believes the players should take the chance at Hampden Park to impress.
The 34-year-old Wigan goalkeeper said: “The campaign is done in terms of qualifying but we have won our last two games and we are looking for another win to give us that confidence and belief to go into March.
“So we will focus on ourselves and try to get a performance and result. That is all we can do.
“Obviously we disappointed early in the campaign and the chance is gone but there is a good opportunity on Tuesday night for players to put down a marker for March and we will be looking to put in a performance.
“If we can win three games in a row there is no better preparation.
“We expect a strong, tough game but one that we are positive we can go and win.”
