Charity: Foodbank to continue but supplies now running low

-

An Aberdeen foodbank has said plans are in place to ensure those in self-isolation will still receive its help – but warned that supplies are already running “severely” low.

Charity CFine is distributing more than 100 food parcels a day from its base on Poynernook Road.

It is expecting this total to fall in the coming weeks, however, as the number of people staying at home to avoid catching the virus rises.

There are concerns that, as a result, this could leave people isolated with no way of accessing their services.

The organisation is working on plans to ensure no one is left behind, if public safety measures in Scotland are escalated to mirror other European countries effectively on “lockdown”.

CFine depute chief executive Fiona Rae said: “Unless they are able to communicate with us and let us know, it will be very difficult for us to know who these individuals are. If we’re alerted to people being on their own who don’t have anyone to assist with going out shopping or to the foodbank for supplies, we’ll try to ensure we can deliver to their home.”

Alongside its main base, CFine also distributes food to more than 100 other organisations across the north-east and Highlands.
