Almost £250k raised for good causes
The Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust has raised almost £250,000 in less than a month to help vulnerable people in Aberdeen.
The Seven Incorporated Trades Widows’ Fund charity initially donated £50,000 to the cause.
Now it has pledged a further £50,000 to match the £100,000 given by the city council’s Common Good Fund.
A total of £161,596 has been awarded to charities across the city, with additional funds being freed up for the next round of applicants.
“To donate a further £50,000 is amazing”
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Barney Crockett, said: “The hardship fund was kicked off by the Seven Incorporated Trades Widows’ Fund charity’s wonderful donation of £50,000, which encouraged others to donate to this very worthy cause.
“For the Widows’ Fund to donate a further £50,000 is simply amazing.”
In the first round, grants ranging from £2,000 to £35,000 were awarded to applicants to support charities providing for the northeast’s most vulnerable.
Mervyn Donald, deacon convener at the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen, said: “We are grateful that we can see firsthand the charities that are benefiting from these donations and changing the lives of local Aberdeen citizens who are struggling during the pandemic.”
