HOTELS

- BY KEITH FINDLAY

Bosses in the UK arm of Asian hotel chain Oyo hope Scottish sites under its brand can capture some business from later school summer holidays south of the border.

It is too early to say whether hotels around Scotland will get much benefit from this country’s school holidays, starting next month.

But families looking for “staycations” during the later school holidays in other parts of the UK, stretching into September, could deliver a welcome boost.

Alex Robertson, general manager, Scotland, Oyo Hotels and Homes, said: “What we are really hoping for from the Scottish Government is a firm date when hotels might be able to reopen and any specific instructions or parameters for doing so.

“We believe this will give confidence to those who might want to book ahead for future travel in Scotland – and it will also give our hoteliers time to prepare their businesses for reopening. Scottish families will find their chance for a summer getaway tightly squeezed this year, but

“Scotland can entice families from England and Wales”

there’s a valuable threeweek period from midAugust when Scotland can entice families from England and Wales before their schools reopen in September.”

India-based Oyo entered the UK market – its first outside of Asia – in 2018.

It now has more than 40 properties under its brand across Scotland, in cities, coastal towns and rural areas.

Recent additions to the portfolio include Lost Guest House businesses in Aberdeen and Peterhead, the Eastbank Hotel in Rothes and the Richmond Arms in Tomintoul.

Oyo has kept some of its Scottish hotels open to accommodate key workers and others in need.
