Two men have been charged over the death of a north teenager following a crash in the days before Christmas last year.

Gregor McIntosh was involved in the collision on the A9 between Inverness and Thurso on Friday December 20.

The 16-year-old was a passenger in a red Vauxhall Corsa, which was being driven at the Munlochy Junction on the Black Isle at around 6.55pm.

Three fire engines had to be called to the scene to use hydraulic cutting gear to help release the casualties.

The teenager was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital but he died as a result of his injuries.

Police opened an investigation and issued a plea to the public for information or dash-cam footage that would help them understand the circumstances surrounding the collision.

And last night officers confirmed two men, aged 18 and 48, have been charged with causing his death by careless driving.

The pair are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Following his death, friends and family raised thousands of pounds to help pay for Gregor’s funeral.

Close to 400 people contributed to a GoFundMe campaign set up by one of his friends, Ellie Campbell.

At the time, she said: “The world became a darker place when Gregor passed away.

“Gregor deserves the best send-off we can possibly give him.

“Hopefully this will ease the burden of this for his family as well.

“Everyone is absolutely heartbroken and it hasn’t set in for the majority of us yet.”

Others, including members of the local Knockbain Community Council and Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch MSP Kate Forbes, also shared their condolences.

A police spokesman said last night: “We can confirm two men have been charged in connection with a fatal road traffic collision on the A9.

“The two men – aged 18 and 48 – have been charged with causing death by careless driving and reports have been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“They are both expected to appear in court in due course.”
