HUNTLY, United Auctions sold 1,105 prime sheep on June 17. New season lambs (433) averaged 215.48p per kg and sold to 236p for 44.2kg Beltex crosses from Victoria Terrace, Turriff, and to £114 for 57kg Texels from Mains of Tillymorgan, Culsalmond.
Old season lambs (132) SQQ averaged 166.06p per kg and sold to 179p for 34kg Cheviots from Langdale, Strathnaver, and to £76 for 52kg Cheviots from Tacher, Latheron.
Ewes (540) sold to a top of £140 for a pen of Texels from Cranna Bridge Aberchirder. “Lambs followed the national trend and were a shade easier but dearer than expected as long as they were well-fleshed. Any meat around was still cashing in well for the time of year.
