Judges praise P&J designer’s work at awards
A Press and Journal designer has been named one of the best in the UK at the prestigious Regional Press Awards.
Clarke Cooper was highly commended in the designer of the year – magazine/ supplement category for his creative efforts with the P&J’s monthly Energy Voice magazine.
Judges praised his “eyecatching and entertaining front cover designs” and his “very creative” ability to create “powerful images”.
They added: “Clarke has a clear creative vision which enables his designs to jump off the page.
“He shows a good sense of humour allied to imaginative design output. He creates great variety and impact.”
The awards, which celebrate the best of local journalism including news, sports, data, social media, campaigns and photography, are organised each year by the Society of Editors.
The Yorkshire Post won daily newspaper of the year and also collected the supplement of the year award – beating the P&J’s Your Life magazine.
Meanwhile the P&J’s sister title, The Courier, was highly commended for its Shaped by a River: Tales of the Tay series in the digital initiative of the year category.
In a video message screened at the virtual awards, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden paid tribute to the regional press and the “unique role” it plays in “holding local politicians to account and in building a sense of community”.
