KEEPING IT SIMPLE FOR DAD
With Father’s Day in mind, Ellie House runs through some wardrobe options that will give men a classic look with plenty of depth
Amid the standard Father’s Day offering of socks and novelty ties lies the superior classic T-shirt. It might seem a little basic, but never underestimate how useful a gift it can be. Polo neck, turn-up sleeves or on-trend stripe, there is plenty to choose from. You don’t need to spend a fortune to get the look, and you can pick up a T-shirt along with a pint of milk at your supermarket.
It’s a misconception that a slogan tee is best left behind in your youth, and a T-shirt really can look good on anyone.
It’s perhaps best to leave skin-tight styles to the boy-band days and opt for a more relaxed fit.
A T-shirt is easy to style, and you can add layers depending on the weather.
There’s every colour of the rainbow on offer, but you can’t go wrong with the classic white tee.
It’s also important to consider the length. Too long, and you might look like you’re recreating the baggy T-shirt days beloved by teenagers at the skate park.
Too short, and you risk flashing your midriff. T-shirts come with two main types of necklines: the crew and the V-neck.
The crew collar offers a timeless look, whereas the V-neck is it a bit more interesting than your standard tee.
You don’t want a drastic plunging neckline however, unless you have strong feelings about showing off your chest hair.
You can smarten up a T-shirt with a blazer for an evening out, or keep it simple with jeans and trainers.
