Muddle shows up SNP lack of talent

-

SIR, – The complete dearth of talent available within the SNP becomes clearer every day as Alex Bell (The Press and Journal, June 18) clearly confirms.

The confused mixed messaging is exemplified by the contradictory messages on education provided first on Sunday with the longterm “blended approach” by John Swinney in Politics Scotland BBC1 which was promptly dismissed by Nicola Sturgeon in her (almost) daily Covid-19 broadcast on Monday.

“It is absolutely not the case that we are ‘planning’ for blended learning, with children learning at home for part of the school week, to last a year – or anything like it.”

The complete breakdown in communications between the first minister and her deputy is quite bizarre. Are they both living on the same planet, let alone the same country?

Effective Scottish Government by one person is not viable considering the many crises currently being faced. The absence of effective leadership and practical solutions with collective co-operation with councils and teachers cannot be disguised by a slick television presentation, and grand committees such as the “International Council of Education Advisers”.

Staying at home is not a viable option.
