Police say death of woman aged 27 is ‘not suspicious’
Incident: Tragedy as body discovered in Forres house early on Saturday
A woman has been found dead in a house in Forres.
Police were called to the property in Logie Terrace early on Saturday after the 27-year-old’s body was discovered.
An investigation was launched, with officers sealing off the area with tape to allow forensic officers in and out of the property.
The tragedy stunned the local community,
“Any death of such a young person is a real tragedy and I feel for their family”
with many neighbours describing it as a “shock” to find the police outside when they woke up.
Last night, police confirmed they were not treating the woman’s death as suspicious.
A police spokeswoman said: “We can now confirm the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
Officers remained on guard outside the house, near the junction with Market Street, for much of yesterday.
Neighbours of the woman watched on in shock as the drama unfolded on Saturday.
One nearby resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I’m really shocked to find out about the death of that young woman at that house.
“I did wonder what was happening when I saw a lot of police officers at the property at around 7.30am on Saturday.”
Another added: “I saw police at the scene after just popping out to sort my bins and was shocked to find out about the young woman’s death.
Forres councillor George Alexander expressed his condolences to the woman’s loved ones.
He said: “It is such a tragedy for her and her family.
“Any death of such a young person is a real tragedy and I feel for all their family and friends at this really difficult time.”
Chinese social media giant TikTok has reportedly shelved plans to build a global headquarters in the UK.
TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has been in discussions with the Department for International Trade and No 10 to establish a base in Britain, creating 3,000 jobs.
However, The Sunday Times reported ByteDance has suspended negotiations due to the “wider geopolitical context”.
It comes amid increasing tensions between London and Beijing, stemming from the UK Government’s criticism of the Hong Kong security law and the recent decision to ban Huawei from the country’s 5G network.
An unnamed source reportedly told the paper the plans could be revived should relations between China and the UK improve.
A statement from TikTok issued to the paper said: “We remain fully committed to investing in London.”
A government spokesperson said: “ByteDance’s decision on the location of their global HQ is a commercial decision.”
