Cook-off for auctioneers

Events: Gavels swapped for pans

Tw o well-known auctioneers are ditching their gavels and putting on pinnies for a virtual cookoff at this month’s Taste of Grampian food festival.

The event, which was to take place at P&J Live in June, was put on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions.

A virtual and interactive food and drink extravaganza taking place on September 18-20 has been organised in its place.

The food festival, which usually welcomes more than 14,000 people annually, is being organised with support from longterm sponsors Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).

The organisation oversees and promotes the Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork brands.

Other partners for the event include ANM Group, Opportunity North East ( One), The Press and Journal and Evening Express.

As part of the virtual activities on offer, two auctioneers from Aberdeen and Northern Marts – the livestock division of ANM

Group – are taking part in a cook-off where they will show off their ability to cook the perfect steak.

These are the mart’s deputy head of livestock, Colin Slessor and auctioneer Ellis Mutch.

ANM Group chief executive Grant Rogerson said the farmers’ co-operative was pleased to support the event in its virtual format.

“Holding Taste of Grampian virtually this year provides a platform for us to demonstrate the very best our region has to offer and continue our 20- year history of bringing producers and customers together,” said Mr Rogerson.

People visiting the free online event can expect to see a range of fun cook-offs, celebrity cooking demonstrations, competitions, guided online gin and whisky tasting sessions and videos from exhibitors showcasing their produce.

Full details of the virtual event and a schedule of what is happening will be released tomorrow on the new event website at tasteofgrampian.co.uk
