Aberdeen winger Scott Wright is using Celtic and Scotland star Ryan Christie as inspiration as he bids to become a top team regular at Aberdeen.

Wright has endured a frustrating time last season after missing the majority of the campaign with a cruciate ligament injury.

But the 23- year- old has enjoyed a promising start to the 2020- 21 season which included a fine goal in last month’s 2-1 win against Livingston.

Wright says he is trying to model his game on former Don Christie, who spent 18 months on loan at Pittodrie, as he tries to cement his place in an advanced role behind the strikers.

He said: “I’ve had a conversation with the gaffer about playing in there, and I’ve seen some great players – like Ryan – in that role here in recent years.

“You watch the best players, whether it’s in the Premier League in England or up here and

Ryan’s definitely one them. You can take as much as possible from players like him and put it into your game.”

The Dons winger added: “Ryan has become more selfish lately in front of goal, and he has the stats to back that up, which is something I want to do.

“I want to put my own spin on the role, but you are judged on your stats, be it assists or goals.

“I just want to be a menace in the team and bring my style to it and see where it goes.

“But I need to be that bit more selfish in front of goal.

“It’s always something that you can improve on.

“Even the likes of great players such as Messi and Ronaldo keep working at their game.

“So I’m going to do the same.”
