Hedges is flying high and setting his sights on a recall for Wales

Ryan Hedges hopes his impressive recent form at Aberdeen will persuade Wales boss Ryan Giggs to draft him into the squad.

He has started the campaign with 12 goals in five games in a burgeoning partnership with fellow wide man Scott Wright.

Hedges has three caps and last played for Wales in the 1-0 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago last year.

“You have to have some motivation inside and every season I set myself a few goals and the aim is the make the Euro squad,” said Hedges.

“That was the target when I signed here and the gaffer knew that and, of course, the competition being postponed means it remains an incentive now. Hopefully I can get a few trophies at Aberdeen which would be great and be a help with making the Wales squad.

“Obviously two games against Celtic and then Hibs before the international break are great games to showcase myself in.”

His popularity among Dons supporters, who were clamouring for his inclusion last season, would make him a surefire pick every week.

However Hedges, who joined the club in 2019 from Barnsley, does not take anything for granted, particularly with a double-header against Celtic on the horizon.

“I wouldn’ t say that personally because when you look at who’ s available it’s still hard to say if I will start on Sunday,” he said.

“Hopefully I can keep going , keep per forming and keep contributing to wins for the team as that’s what matters.

“The difference for me now is that I’ve had a run of games as I started well last season but them for whatever reason found myself out of the side.

“I couldn’ t really force my way back in after that but the break turned out to be a good thing for me personally. I wouldn’ t have liked it to be so long but it was good to be able to refresh the batteries and look where I was at in my career.

“T hat ’s allowed me to attack this season full of confidence and optimism and that’s paying off right now.”
