Todorov can have no better mentor than record scorer Robbo

Nikolay Todorov hopes to apply the striking advice offered to him by Caley Thistle manager John Robertson.

Todorov ne tted his second goal of the season to secure a late 1-1 draw with Ayr on Saturday, getting Inverness off the mark for the Championship campaign.

It caps an impressive start for the Bulgarian, who scored seven goals in 31 outings last season.

Todorov insists the tips of Robertson, who is Hearts’ all- time record goalscorer having netted 214 league goals for the Jambos, have proved invaluable.

Todorov said: “He’s one of the best in the game for scoring goals. I try to learn from him every single day. He tells me little tips and he’s almost always right.

“That was one thing that really attracted me to Inverness, because he is the manager and he will improve me.

“I’m building from last season. Last year I think I only started three or four and I scored seven goals.

“One of my prides is finishing and that’s why

I’m really hard on myself because I know I can do it. It’s not only about scoring goals. I have been speaking with the manager about what I need to improve because I’m the type of guy that wants to improve on everything.”

To d o r o v was disappointed not to score more having hit the woodwork twice in the first half.

The 24-year-old added: “The manager tells me that you always miss more than you score. It’s all about getting the next chance.

“I’m a bit disappointed that it came so late in the game, because we had plenty of chances.

“It’s a bit disappointing not to grab the three points because we created more than enough. I think we deserved it more than them. We can be disappointed, but we will build on that. It’s one point.”

Ayr boss Mark Kerr said: “The goal was so avoidable. It was good from Inverness who were decent at times but we won the ball in a good shape and gave it straight to them. It’s a hard one to take.”
