Broken-window sites neglected

-

Sir, – According to the broken windows theory, just as a building with one broken window is vulnerable to additional vandalism, a neighbourhood with visible signs of minor disorder, such as graffiti and littering, is vulnerable to criminal invasion.

I have noticed more and more over recent times that Aberdeen city centre is falling prey to increasing graffiti and, more worryingly, broken windows.

The problem is that there are several central locations where the windows have either been boarded up or just left, and this creates both a worry for the local neighbours and a decreased value in the surrounding properties.

I have seen flats which have had broken windows unrepaired for over a year now, and it begs the question of what the local council or police are willing to do about this?
