Pretty market plan will create dusty wind tunnel

-

Sir, – I have just looked at the proposals for the new Aberdeen market.

I wonder if the architect lives in Spain and has never been to Aberdeen?

We do not need another dusty wind tunnel.

We do not need more treacherous steps to negotiate. Steps like the ones proposed, that taper from a slope, are a huge hazard and the absence of handrails indicates that, yet again, designers care more about pretty drawings than real people doing real things.

When will we wake up to the fact that Aberdeen is often cold and windy but we are blessed to have lots of sunlight throughout the year?

I want masses of sunlight in an INDOOR setting. We could have pavement cafes and trees and flowers and children’s play areas in an INDOOR sunny setting.

Same applies to the promised redevelopment of the beach area. Finally, if it is not too much to ask, can we begin to remove hazardous steps, not create even more horrendous examples?

Otherwise Aberdeen town centre is dead.

Isabel Page,

South Road, Oldmeldrum.
