Cummings can banish 2014 ghosts – McPake

-

James McPake may not be haunted by the ghosts of play-offs past but the Dundee boss reckons Jason Cummings will be out to right the wrongs of his 2014 nightmare.

McPake was captain of Hibernian when the Easter Road outfit fell through the Premiership trap-door after a shock defeat to Hamilton.

But a difference of opinion over his fitness with then Leith boss Terry Butcher meant he was consigned to a seat in the stand as Accies claimed a famous win on penalties.

It was striker Cummings’ missed spotkick which sealed Hibs’ fate but the 25-year-old is now hoping to re-write his play-off story having hooked up with McPake again at Dens Park.

They face Raith over two games this week – with the winner progressing to play the team finishing second bottom of the top flight for a shot at promotion.

Ahead of the trip to Stark’s Park, McPake said: “Jason is the one who might be looking at this as a chance to bury those ghosts. But for me, my job is fully focused on Dundee. I don’t see these play-offs as a chance to put right what happened at Hibs.”
