Albyn School educates for life

The decision of where to educate your child is one of the most important that you will make as a parent. The team at Albyn School are firm believers in educating for life. While they are proud that the school achieved the best SQA Higher exam results in Scotland last year, it is equally important that pupils grow up to be caring and respectful adults.

The goal is for children to be self-aware, ambitious and outward-looking so they can contribute to the world they will enter when they leave school. In order to achieve that, Albyn School seeks to help them develop six key qualities: curiosity, resilience, confidence, endeavour, empathy and teamwork. Everything is underpinned by an ethos of community spirit, love of learning and mutual respect.

“Albyn School is committed to being a welcoming community for everyone. Together, we celebrate diversity and support an inclusive culture where all our young people can make choices to grow and thrive in an ever-changing world,” shared headmaster Stefan Horsman.

Albyn School offers children aged two to 18 an excellent start in their educational journey. Its boys and girls have different skills, abilities and interests, and, thanks to small class sizes, the dedicated teachers can fully focus on harnessing their talents.

A bespoke curricular enrichment programme is integrated into the primary school day. Younger children choose from a range of activities designed to stimulate their intellect, help them learn new skills and become more compassionate.

The school is continually developing teaching facilities too. The Wood Foundation Engineering Science Centre was built in 2016 to meet the increasing interest in science, engineering and design. From August, pupils will make use of brand new soundproofed practice rooms and a recording studio.

Albyn School also caters to sport enthusiasts. Whether your child likes netball, hockey, cricket or football, the PE teachers will empower them to form positive attitudes and develop their physical abilities.

The wide range of subjects available, the flexibility to make timetables fit, and the breadth of co-curricular activities on offer are the vital ingredients which enable Albyn’s young people to achieve their aspirations. Pupils are encouraged to get involved in some of the 100+ co-curricular activities on offer, so they can develop interests beyond their academic studies.

The Albyn School Parents’ Association helps to strengthen the community and organises popular social events such as regular coffee mornings, a fireworks party and a Christmas fair. Albyn School also assists parents by providing supervised care for pupils before and after the normal school hours.

Many children start their Albyn School journey in nursery, with many more joining along the way. The team is certain that Albyn School could be a good fit for your child, but, just like its pupils, they would like to encourage you to be curious and find out for yourself at the next open day on Friday 26 May.
