Nepal climb charity bid raises £7,000
An Aberdeen woman has already raised more than £7,000 for north-east charity AberNeccessities ahead of her expedition to scale a 5,600m Himalayan peak.
Adele Mair will travel to Nepal in April in her quest to reach the summit of Kala Patthar on the Pumori mountain.
She booked the trip months ago and has so far managed to raise £7,050 for AberNeccessities, which provides disadvantaged families with essential and basic necessities.
Adele said: “I chose AberNecessities because it’s a local charity. I wanted something in Aberdeen or
Aberdeenshire and also the the work that they do for the children in Aberdeen that live in poverty is just absolutely second to none.
“The reason I chose that one was children don’t get asked to be brought into
the world, so when they’re brought into a situation that’s not very pleasant, it’s not their fault.
“So I just thought if I can do anything to help the kids, that’s why I chose that charity to raise money for.”
Adele’s trip will see her depart Edinburgh on Friday April 29, travelling to Kathmandu via Doha.
After two days in the Nepalese capital, she will go on to the town of Lukla, where her journey to the Kala Patthar peak, 5600m above sea with a clear view of Everest’s peak, will begin.
The journey will take 10 days to reach the peak, then four days back down to Lukla.
Adele, 35, originally from Findochty, has been training since May 2023, and says she has been put through her paces to deal with the low oxygen levels at such high altitudes,
