McKenzie pens new deal as Vargas signs on

-

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes is delighted that “influential” midfielder Rory McKenzie has signed a one-year contract extension.

The 30-year-old is closing in on 400 appearances for Killie, where he has played since emerging through the youth academy.

McInnes told the club’s official website: “We are delighted that Rory has signed a new deal, he is such a valued member of this squad and brings so much to the club. He has a big part to play here and I know that he can be so influential for us this season and beyond.”

McKenzie, who made his Killie debut 13 years ago, said: “I am delighted to extend my stay at Kilmarnock, signing a new deal was a no-brainer for me.

“This has been a great season so far, hopefully we can make it one to remember for everyone involved with the club.”

Elsewhere, Hearts have completed the signing of Kenneth Vargas on a permanent deal from CS Herediano.

The Costa Rican forward has signed a five-year deal at Tynecastle after impressing during his loan stint with the Jambos, bagging seven goals in 34 appearances.

“I’m really happy that we’ve been able to sort out Kenneth’s future and bring him in permanently,” Hearts boss Steven Naismith told the club website.

“Everyone can see his talents but he’s also got a real willingness to learn and is great around the dressing room. It’s important to remember that the initial loan move was Kenneth’s first away from Costa Rica and from his family. So for him to settle as well as he has and put in the performances that he has, is impressive and I think we’ll see even more from him as he and the team continue to progress.”
